René Bauche was born on 9 May 1889 at Lesse Redu, Belgium, one of the seven children of Emile Joseph Bauche and Marie Felicie Copet. According to the family source he came to Canada in 1905, the first of the family to do so. He married Marie Boulanger in 1921; they had four children. He died on 20 April 1956. [S2][S3]
He was 15 or 16 when he crossed, apparently alone. Where he was going is not recorded; families from Redu were already settled at Grande Clairière and Bellegarde (see The First Settlers).
